The Symptom
You've got one bent or cracked section on an otherwise working door. Maybe a bumper backed into it, maybe a rock kicked up and dented a panel, maybe years of sun just split the seam on a steel section.
Single bowed panel dragging
The door still runs, opener still works, but that one panel is bowed enough that it's dragging on the track or just looks bad from the street. Most of the doors we get panel calls on here date to the 1966-1997 building boom that put up most of the houses in this part of the high desert.
Matching panel width and grooves
That matters because a single-panel swap only works if we can match the section width, the groove pattern, and usually the color. On a door from that era, the original manufacturer may not stock that exact panel anymore, which is the honest limitation here: sometimes the closest match is close enough, and sometimes it isn't, and we'll tell you which before you pay for it.
Multiple cracked panels
If two or more panels are cracked, or the door is sagging on its hinges, that's usually past the point where a panel swap makes sense. We'd rather say that up front than sell you a patch that won't hold.

Booking a Visit
We come look at the door before quoting anything. A panel job depends on the door's brand, the groove profile, the hinge spacing, and whether the track or hinges took damage along with the panel - none of that is visible in a phone photo clearly enough to price it right.
Bring the door's brand name or model sticker if you can find it, usually on the inside edge of a panel or near the opener bracket. That one piece of information can save a second trip, since it tells us right away whether we're ordering from stock or hunting down a match for an older design.
We work across the service area day to day, so a visit here is routine, not a special trip. Tell us when you call whether the door still opens and closes on its own - a panel that's bowed into the track can jam the door partway, and that changes how we schedule the visit.
The Cost of This Job
We don't post a flat number for panel replacement because the spread between jobs is wide - a plain steel section costs a lot less than matching an embossed panel with a window cutout, and availability drives the price as much as labor does.
Single-panel quote first
At a median household income of $74,778 across the service area, most owners we talk to ask for the single-panel repair quote first and the full-door quote as a comparison, not the other way around. That's usually the right order to ask in.
Panel match versus new section
If the panel match runs close to what a new door section costs, or if your door is old enough that a second panel will likely go within a year or two, we'll say so rather than let you spend twice.
Groove and hinge check
We quote on site, after we've seen the groove profile and hinge condition, not over the phone. Lead time on a special-order panel can run longer than a stock one, and that's worth knowing before you commit to a repair date.
What Causes It Around Here
Two things line up in this area to make panel damage common. First, the housing stock: most of the 33,942 owner-occupied houses across the service area were built in that 1966-1997 window, with the bulk of it 1980s and 90s construction across all eight communities we cover, from Mountain View Acres two miles out to Crestline nineteen miles away. Doors from that era are mostly steel with a thinner gauge than what's sold today, and thinner steel dents and cracks easier at the seams.
Second, the climate here runs a moderate heat band, and steel expands and contracts with that heat cycle every single day, not just in summer. Over three or four decades, that cycling works the fasteners loose at the panel joints, which is exactly where a dent or a stray basketball turns into a crack instead of just a scuff.
Put those two together and you get a lot of doors in this area that are structurally fine everywhere except one tired, decades-old panel. That's a different problem than a brand-new door with a dent, and it's why we look at the whole door's age before we tell you a single-panel fix is worth doing.
